Hunting and Enjoying the Outdoors Over the Fourth of July

Hunting the weekend of the fourth of July is a real challenge but Hunter Ed Course has some thoughts.

We are between Turkey hunting season and Deer hunting season, but in reality there are many potential opportunities to enjoy the hunt and the outdoors this great holiday weekend.

Enjoying the outdoors over July fourth

Hunting and outdoors ideas for July 4th weekend

Predator Hunting for Coyotes, Prairie Dogs and Groundhogs

In most parts of the country, you can hunt coyotes and prairie dogs during the summer months. This is a great way to sharpen your aim for the upcoming deer season and enjoy the outdoors. Most farmers welcome hunting of varmints on their property so gaining access isn’t much of a problem.

Hog Hunting

Wild hogs have become such a problem in most states that is now an open season year-around. Have you tried hog hunting? It is a blast. Consider setting up a hunt over the July 4th weekend. Check out our article on how to hunt hogs and the gear you’ll need: http://hunteredcourse.com/wild-hogs-great-for-a-first-hunter-or-seasoned-woodsman/

Hogs are great for a new hunter or the seasoned hunter. They are plentiful, easy to hunt and extremely destructive to the habitat so most landowners will welcome you on their property to help with these eliminating this problem.

Take an Online Hunter Safety Course

The predator hunting and hog hunting are great hunts for the first-time hunter before deer hunting season starts. In most states first-time hunters will be required to take hunter education. Besides being the law, you will feel a lot better being in the field with a first time hunter knowing that they have taken a hunter safety course as they carry that loaded firearm.

The easiest and most convenient means to take hunter education is to take the course online. Hunter Ed Course offers a low cost, easy learning online hunter safety course at www.HunterEdCourse.com.

Scout for Deer Hunting Season

Get the family out in the woods or field for a hike while you start scouting the deer patterns for the upcoming deer-hunting season. The hike will start preparing you physically for the season and you’ll have some quality family time as you walk the trails and can pass on your scouting tips to your kids as walk the woods.

Visit the Shooting Range

What a great weekend to go to the shooting range. I bet it is empty as people head to the beach so you’ll have it to yourself. You can try new shooting techniques or if you are just introducing your kids to hunting, then it is a good time to have them taking their first shots, getting used to the noise and recoil. This is particularly important in preparation for the hunter education field days most kids will need to attend where they demonstrate their gun handling skills for a state-approved hunter education instructor.

Clean Your Firearm and Dry-Fire for Practice

Sometimes it is just nice to get one of your firearms out and handle it, clean it and practice squeezing the trigger in preparation for the upcoming deer season. If you area shot-gunner you might want to practice swinging through your shotgun for a smooth consistent swing. I will put a flashlight in the barrel and swing along a line to be sure I am smooth and straight.

Shoot a Round of Sporting Clays

Many outdoorsmen are not golfers, but if you shoot sporting clays it is basically golf with a gun. Each station gives you a different shot, you walk the course and it is a good competitive sport to enjoy the company with others. This is a great weekend to return to the sporting clays course or try it for the first time if you’ve never had the opportunity.

Go Fishing

The heat may limit your desire to hunt, but what about fishing.  You’re on the water and enjoying the outdoors. It can’t get much better. Many families are spending this weekend on the beach.  This gives you a chance to be with your family during the day enjoying the sun, but it still lets you get up early, and fish for a couple of hours before the rest of the family is up and ready to go.

Enjoy a Fourth of July Parade

When was the last time you went to the local parade? If you have small kids they’ll love the bands, clowns and floats, and if you a little older you’ll re-kindle the real meaning of why we are celebrating this holiday and support the local community through the bands, schools and civic organizations.

Most of all, Spend the Fourth of July with Family

Even the Fourth of July celebrates our great country’s independence, there is no better way to enjoy with a family gathering. Create a BBQ, enjoy some games and go for a hike in the woods or ride bike. It gets you outside and brings the family together.

Enjoy the fourth from Hunter Ed Course!
